Owning The Amber House gives us an opportunity to share some of things we love with fellow travelers. Ambiance, good food, rejuvenation. Innkeeping is perfect for us. We always knew that it would be. We have been collecting the skills for this endeavor throughout our entire careers. We have over 40 years of experience in the hospitality and service industry between us. A wide range of work experience combined with extensive travel in 48 states and over 30 countries have brought us an intimate understanding of both the giving and receiving sides of hospitality.
As innkeepers, we try to blur the lines of many styles of accommodation to create the unique experience of The Amber House. We became serious about owning a bed and breakfast during a period of traveling together around the world. We took a break from our hospitality careers to spend the year 2011 experiencing the cultures and approaches to life in 30 countries. We used our time as an education. We learned about food, music, religion, nature and accommodation in societies all over the world. In that year we stayed in private homes, bed and breakfasts, hotels, cabins, hostels and tents. We slept on trains, buses, planes and ferries. From all of those experiences, we took valuable information and have pieced together a complete, eclectic, unique concept of what a boutique accommodation can be.
We genuinely enjoy hosting people. We love creating a welcoming ambiance, meeting travelers, sharing ideas and preparing delicious foods. It is especially rewarding to observe the interaction among guests who have met in our home. The sounds of chatter and laughter among strangers around the house is a true affirmation of what we do. We believe that an honest offering of what we really have here is the best way to make people feel comfortable while staying with us. We are proud of where we live, and therefore we try to show what's great about Missouri. We have a desire to convey the beauty of Missouri's nature, food and artisans through our business. By offering local food, we showcase the bounty of the area to its visitors while supporting the important contribution of our small farmers. We prominently display artistic photographs of the community, which encourages our guests to spark conversation and explore the area.
Hosting people in our home has always been a big part of our lives, so hosting as part of our business followed naturally. Innkeeping is a lifestyle that requires a lot of time, energy, commitment and motivation. For us it makes sense, and we are happy to be in a position to share our home with others. Keep traveling!

All I can is, wow! This was my first bed and breakfast experience and I already cannot wait to return to The Amber House! The house was pristine and beautiful. Our room, the Sapphire room, was roomy, cozy and comfortable. We loved the fireplace, robes, complimentary beverages and access to a huge selection of movies to finish our day off.

Hard to begin when everything is absolutely perfect from the time you arrive to the sad morning when reality sets in and you're heading home!! Good to book the next visit on that morning. Rooms are clean. Food is outstanding and every detail is addressed if allergies or "not an option" is needed.

Welcome to The Amber House! Built in 2005, we are the newest and most luxurious bed and breakfast in the historic village of Rocheport, Missouri. We are located two blocks from the Katy Trail and near the acclaimed Les Bourgeouis Winery.
